Interior Decor (Level 4)

Whether we are conscious of it or not, the interior décor of the places we live and work in affect our lives on a daily basis. The interior decorating of a room can make us feel happy or sad, relaxed or energetic. As people become more aware of the impact of interior décor in their lives, they are seeking the advice of interior designers.

This comprehensive level 4 course will train you in the art of interior decorating. You will be introduced to the principles of design, colour, texture and furnishings, then demonstrate your knowledge in practical assignments that focus on specific design and presentation techniques. The course includes an art kit with premium equipment which will be of use to you in future interior design projects.

As well as learning the principles and practical skills of an interior decorator, the course will introduce you to the professional practice of an interior decorator and equip you will the business skills required to set up your own consultancy business.

• The design process of developing a concept – considering function, suitability and aesthetic value
• The role of colour and light in interior decorating – colour schemes, colour psychology, how light acts on colour
• Visual presentation techniques – scaled drawing, floor plans and elevations, one- and two-point perspective drawing
• Understanding the architectural heritage of houses – designing according to the architectural style of a house
• Textiles – performance properties, furnishings, design elements of texture and colour
• Reading building plans and creating two-point perspective drawings to scale
• Model construction and space planning – colour board presentation, model buildings
• Kitchens and storage solutions – function, planning, designing, analysis
• Furniture, art and accessories – using the elements and principles of design
• Professional practice of an interior decorator – managing a budget, issues of indemnity and work safety, business ethics, communication skills
• Developing business skills – setting up your own interior decorating business
